The category list is the story. Restaurants, travel, gas, transit, streaming and phone plans covers most of what a household spends outside groceries and rent, and none of it is capped or gated behind quarterly activation. Compare that to a rotating-category card, where you get 5% on $1,500 a quarter and 1% the rest of the time, and the flat 3x often wins on total dollars earned.
Wells Fargo also treats this as a travel card in the ways that matter for a free product: no foreign transaction fee, rental car coverage when you decline the counter insurance, and the 20,000-point bonus for $1,000 of spending in three months. Points redeem at about a cent each toward travel, gift cards or statement credits, and can also be spent through PayPal at checkout.
Where it falls short is financing and perks. The intro APR runs 12 months and applies to purchases only, shorter than the 15 months the cash-back cards here offer and far shorter than the Reflect's 21. There is also no lounge access, free bag or elite status, because this is not a co-branded card. Treat it as a card for earning rewards, not for carrying a balance.
