We review cards on the terms issuers publish: APR, fees, rewards and eligibility. We do not accept payment for a favorable review.

The verdict

The math is simple and unusually favorable: a United Club membership bought outright runs up to $750 a year, and this card includes one for $695 along with free checked bags, priority boarding and status acceleration. If you fly United several times a year and use the lounge, it pays for itself. If you do not, nothing else here justifies the price.Jump to:Full review

Full review

Premium airline cards usually ask you to believe a pile of soft benefits adds up to the fee. This one has a hard number behind it. A standalone United Club membership costs up to $750 a year, and the card includes it for $695, which means the lounge alone covers the cost before you count anything else.

Everything else stacks on top. Free first and second checked bags for you and a companion is worth roughly $140 per round trip for two people. Priority boarding, IHG Platinum status, a 10,000-mile award discount after $20,000 of spending, and PQP earning at one point per $20 spent all push toward elite status faster than flying alone would. The welcome offer of 80,000 miles after $5,000 in three months, plus 10,000 for adding an authorized user, is substantial in its own right.

Two 2026 changes deserve attention before you apply. The annual fee jumped from $525 to $695, which is now the highest of any top-tier airline card. And lounge guesting was cut back: you can bring one adult guest plus dependent children under 18, rather than two adults, and Star Alliance lounge access no longer comes with the standard membership. Neither change breaks the value for a frequent United flyer, but both shrink it, and if you were counting on bringing two colleagues into the club, that is gone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the annual fee really $695?
Yes. United raised it from $525 during 2026, applying immediately to new applicants and to existing cardholders at renewal.
How many guests can I bring to the lounge?
One adult guest plus dependent children under 18, unless you qualify for an All Access membership. The previous two-adult allowance was removed.
Do I still get Star Alliance lounge access?
Not with the standard membership at this tier. That benefit now requires All Access.
